We have been a family owned business for over 50 years. Burnie Akin , my dad, sold his new 57 Chevy to build the building so he could open  “Burnie Akin Body Shop”.  The business flourished from the beginning, mainly because of my dad’s skills and his “do it right” attitude.

I started working there in the summer when I was 12 and it didn’t take me long to realize how things were done. Dad taught me early that honesty and “if it’s worth doing…… it’s worth doing right” is the way to do business. His reputation for high quality collision repair was well known all over West TN. I started full time after graduation continuing to learn how to do business the right way. Burnie’s grandson, Tracy, began working at a young age also, showing he had the skills to please his employer. Tracy began working full time after graduation in 1987. In 1991 I took over the business when dad retired changing the name to Akin’s Body Shop. In 2005, David, now my son-in-law, started his career with us after his graduation from high school. David jumped right in using paint guns and tools like he had been doing it for 20 years.

After more than 50 years, some major cleaning up, renovations and adding new equipment, Akin’s Body Shop is still run the way Burnie intended it to be – Honesty first, then do the job right!

Thanks for taking the time to read about us.
